In Revelation 1:8, Jesus referred to Himself as the “Alpha and Omega.” His usage of the first and last letters of the Greek alphabet signified God’s eternity.
I’ll use alpha and omega in a more limited view and simply allow it to define our first and last Packathons for the year 2015.
Wilmington Christian Academy (in Wilmington, NC) kicked the year off for Feed the Hunger by packing 21,120 meals in early February (left picture below), and Trinity Christian Academy in Raleigh, NC ended the year for us by packing 23,760 meals in late December (right picture). In between, there was a whole lot of packing going on!
Here are some brief Packathon statistics for 2015:
- Over 16,000 people set aside time from their busy schedules to make packing food for malnourished children and families a priority
- There were 68 different Packathon events held in 14 states and in Canada
- The total meal count in 2015 was a whopping 2,976,952 meals
To everyone who gave of their time and resources for these nearly three million meals, thank you so much. Every meal packed becomes an absolute blessing, both to the three-year-old in Haiti and to the 85-year-old in the coalfields of Kentucky.
Children and families all over the globe benefit as their physical needs are met, but as you already know, at FtH, “It’s More Than A Meal!” Every bag of food is distributed with loving care by our Christian partners whose greatest desire is that the meal recipient come to a deep spiritual relationship with the One True Savior.
So when you’re looking for a project that the whole family can do this year, consider finding a Packathon near you, and come out and pack! Here is a list of upcoming packing events. Hope to see you there!
