Situated in the Mosquitia region of eastern Honduras, the remote village of Rus Rus is home to the only hospital for approximately 25,000 people who otherwise lack basic medical care. Rus Rus is also the base of operations for Missionary Air Group (MAG), a Burlington, NC-based ministry that provides emergency airlift and humanitarian services to the community, while presenting the Gospel to those living in spiritual darkness.
The neighboring country of Nicaragua has been experiencing increasing civil unrest that has driven refugees across the Coco River into Honduras. Being only 5 miles from the border, Rus Rus has seen an influx of hungry, tired, and fearful people who don’t know where to turn. Feed the Hunger was contacted about sending our beans and rice meals to Rus Rus as a nutrient-fortified alternative to locally available food that is in short supply.
After a short sea journey from the US, a pallet of FtH food was flown into Rus Rus by MAG’s resident pilot, Westley. Last week, distribution began to those in need in the village. Several photos of the food distribution were sent from Honduras, and we would like to share some of them with you.
Many in the crowd were children and young adults who may not even have a village (or a country) to call “home”. It is our desire that they not only receive the food that will help them stay physically healthy, but that they hear the Gospel and become members of God’s family.
A second pallet of food is in transit to Rus Rus and should arrive in the next few weeks. We invite you to pray that it clears customs quickly and is used to advance the Kingdom of God in a place of urgent need!
That is awesome that there are services that can help provide food supply through distribution. That is nice that the food delivered can help the people stay physically healthy. I like that food distribution companies are able to refill and restock a lowering food supply.
