We received an exciting report last week from one of our partnering churches about FtH food making a difference for Christ here in North Carolina. Mike Becker and his wife Pat are members of Anchor Baptist Church in Wilmington, NC and are involved in a feeding ministry at Greenfield Park in downtown Wilmington. Partnering with Hill of Witness Ministries, Anchor Baptist began providing food one Sunday each month following a worship service at one of the park shelters. They use FtH beans and rice—the very boxes their church packed!—as a base for a warm, nutritious meal, serving it with chicken, salad, rolls, and other sides.
Over the last four weeks, the Holy Spirit has led 11 people to salvation, and the gathering is averaging 70 people each week! On a particularly nasty February morning, complete with rain, sleet, and extreme cold, the church served hot soup instead of the regular meal. Only five people showed up, all homeless. They were amazed that anyone was there. One said, “We have to be here but you don’t. It means a lot to us that you came anyway.”
The work started by Hill of Witness and helped by Anchor Baptist and other partnering churches is a powerful example of feeding spiritual and physical hunger in the needy. Pray that this ministry would continue and that more people would come to know Jesus Christ as their Savior!
