Okay, now that I have your attention, we’ll briefly look at this issue floating around the prophecy world. There are people who are claiming that, based on Scripture, President Obama fits the description of the Antichrist. Others say they have had dreams or visions that proclaim he is this specific evil person that rules at the End of the Age. Maybe they heard from God. Or maybe they had spicy food for dinner that night. It’s hard to argue with someone who claims they’ve had a divine message.
I have some major issues with those who are declaring that the president is the Antichrist, and I would caution you for the same reason. Let’s remind ourselves of some Biblical truths.
- God places rulers in their offices (Daniel 2:21, John 19:11, Romans 13:1). We may not understand in this life why He chooses certain leaders who make horrible decisions. But God is sovereign and He has a master plan for the world and every life.
- We are called to honor and pray for our leaders (1 Timothy 2:1-2, 1 Peter 2:17). I encourage you to ask anyone who believes that the president is evil incarnate, or is even just critical of his actions, “Do you pray for President Obama?” “Do you pray that He would experience personal revival and lead in a godly manner?”
- Lastly, in my opinion, you simply can’t prove that anyone is the actual Antichrist until they start fulfilling specific verses related to the End of the Age (Daniel 7:25, 2 Thessalonians 2:3-4, Revelation 13:5, just to name a few).
If anyone in America believes that President Obama is the Antichrist (and I don’t for what it’s worth), they are dishonoring their leader and are probably not praying for him. Instead of hoping he becomes a godly leader, they are simply jumping to conclusions. Why not devote that energy instead to building others up and helping them work on their own walk with the Lord?
