RockPointe Church in Flower Mound, Texas, believes that they should be making more and better followers of Jesus Christ. It’s in their DNA to serve each other, their community, and others around the world. And if you were to serve with the people of RockPointe Church, you would clearly see that God is changing lives through their obedience to the Great Commission.

Last November the church held their 13th Packathon. Hundreds of people from young to old turned out to pack Chicken Pasta, working hard and having lots of fun as usual. This packing event was a little bit different, however, because in March they took a mission team to poverty-stricken Lynch, Kentucky. Here they got to participate in many projects, but most importantly, they got to pass out the very food that they packed.

40 people, including 18 adults and 22 children, made the two-day drive from Texas to Kentucky. They arrived excited and ready to work. In Texas, the temperature was in the 70s, but that changed dramatically when they reached Kentucky. It was stuck around 26 degrees, and there was snow!

There were many opportunities for outreach: painting fences, picking up limbs and sticks after a storm, repairing a building used for community outreach, and scraping and painting rooms used for mission teams. Evening was a wonderful time for devotions and hearing local missionaries share about God’s calling on their lives.

The children were always busy—not only painting, but also coloring and writing beautiful Scripture cards to share with people in the community.

They were also greatly used by God in ministering to the local children by playing basketball with them each evening. Wonderful friendships were made!

The team experienced a trip to the museum and a tour of a coal mine. Everyone enjoyed learning about the coal mining culture and began to understand the poverty in the area.

The highlight of the trip was when the team got to distribute the food they packed a few months earlier and help package food boxes for a local food pantry. Hot meals were hand delivered door-to-door to many in great need in the community. Through this food, doors and hearts were opened for the team to pray with people.

The lives of both team members and those in the community were forever changed on this mission trip. It started with a simple desire to touch lives and to answer the call that God has placed on each of us. From a Packathon to a mission trip—it’s more than a meal!
