What do a mountain getaway, a cornhole set, and $6,800 have to do with feeding the hunger of those in need? Give up?

cornholeAt Feed the Hunger’s first-ever silent auction last year, we received $6,800 in net proceeds from bids on items like a week-long mountain getaway, a custom cornhole set, patio furniture, a barbecue grill, a deep-massage therapy session, and so much more!

By giving ourselves only 5 weeks before the auction date to pull it all together, we really weren’t sure what to expect. But, this much we knew: no matter the amount that would come in, more meals could be provided to those in need here in Alamance County, across the US, and even around the world. $6,800 provides over 24,000 meals, which literally feeds 100 children for an entire school year in places like Haiti and Jamaica.

IMG_3619We’re already in motion for this year’s silent auction, which will be held December 9–12. Items are currently being collected, and we think we’ll add a raffle component to the mix this year. We’ll have all the auction items on display in the Holly Hill Mall and Business Center in Burlington, NC, since the FtH Christmas Packathon will be held there on the same dates. Mark your calendar to come and pack food for needy children, and while you’re there, place your bids for items that may be on your Christmas list!

And don’t forget to check our website later next month where you can bid online and follow the action! The grand finale will take place live on December 12th from 5:00–6:00 p.m. at our Holly Hill Mall Packathon location.

But, first things first. We need more things to offer for sale. Memorabilia, jewelry, sporting or theater tickets, professional services, and really anything that might be of value can be donated to Feed the Hunger. As a non-profit organization, we will gladly provide a gift-in-kind letter for the full value of your donation. Please be generous and even creative, as every $100 that comes in provides another 357 meals to those in need. Will you be a part of that process?
