Sometimes it’s just so hard to connect with something that is so far away. I know when I hear stories from Eastern Europe or South Asia, there are times that I simply cannot comprehend the true impact that those stories are having on the lives of those who live there.
Take, for instance, the tiny country of Nepal. Located between China and India, Nepal seems to get swallowed up by those two powerhouses. So when I hear that India has issued a blockade at the border preventing fuel and other commodities from entering Nepal, I hear it, but don’t fully comprehend the hardship for our partners there. Nepal is 8,000 miles from North Carolina, so how could I truly understand what they are experiencing?
For the last three weeks, Feed the Hunger has been asking people to pray for our ministry partners in Nepal and Bangladesh, as they are experiencing brutally cold temperatures this month. So I pray because I’m asked, not because I can sympathize with them – because I can’t. God prompts me to pray for them fervently.
Last week, here on the East Coast, we suffered a weekend of pretty rough weather. For whatever reason, the region of central North Carolina where Feed the Hunger is headquartered gets sleet and freezing rain more than it gets snow. So, while the accumulations ranged from 3”–8”, most of what we received was sleet.
We have been hoping and praying that we can get blankets to those in need in Bangladesh and Nepal, and I believe that God gave us this weather on the East Coast to prompt us to act. And many of you DID act! Once the snow and ice started falling, the online gifts began to come in to help us get blankets to places like our Elderly Widows Home in Kathmandu, Nepal.
These beautiful ladies live in a country where the government blacks out all power to all homes and businesses for 10–12 hours each and every day. It’s a rolling blackout that occurs at different times each day, making it impossible to keep the home warm, so the ladies wear coats all day long.
If you’re warm and cozy in your home or office, thank the Lord today. He has blessed you. Can you be a blessing to someone else? Every $8 provides a blanket to a Christian who is praying for warmth. Will you be the answer to their prayers? Click here to go to our secure donation page.
