Once again, I must start with the disclaimer that my post is directed toward those who call themselves believers or followers of Christ. To the non-Christian, I don’t expect you to agree, so there’s no need to argue. To the Christian, I imagine that you may not agree with everything I write here, but this blog is my primary platform. I encourage you to use your platform as well.
In regards to the current presidential election, let me cut to the chase and say that I am not voting for any of the current candidates as it stands right now. I have felt this way since they made it through the selection process of their respective parties.
Let me first ask this. Can you show me the verse in the Bible that tells me I have to vote for a presidential candidate? Can you show me the verse in the Bible that tells me to endorse “the lesser of two evils”? (I don’t like that phrase either.)
And yet, to some “conservative Christians,” not voting almost seems like an act of treason. They can’t imagine not voting for Mrs. Clinton’s opponent. To be sure, unless she (1) stops promoting the shedding of innocent blood through abortion, and (2) stops endorsing any union other than man and wife, she will never have my vote. These beliefs go against the very fabric of God’s Word. Anyone who disagrees is blindly twisting Scripture. And my problem with her is not limited to just these two areas. The full list is rather extensive and scandalous, but unnecessary to elaborate here.
I also have many concerns about Mr. Trump. He obviously has a well-documented history of divisiveness and a lack of respect and concern for just about everyone but himself and his family. His embrace of Republican views seems to be recent in nature, so I am concerned about his sincerity. And although “experienced” in business (which includes gambling), I wonder if he really has the skill set needed to tackle the presidency. Having said this (and in my opinion), he is no less qualified or seasoned enough to run for president than a senator who announces his candidacy only two years into his first term (President Obama).
There are those who are warning non-voting Christians that they will be held responsible for the country’s direction and fate if Mrs. Clinton is elected. If this is true, could the opposite not also be true? If Mr. Trump is elected and angers another country that then presses the nuke button, should we hold Trump voters responsible? This argument just doesn’t carry any weight with me.
To the Christian crowd who believes this election is primarily about the Supreme Court, consider this: the appointment process will likely be slow due to the current makeup of the Senate. Ultimately, though, be reminded that there is only One Supreme Judge who really is in control of this country. Presidents come and go. Believe it or not, congressmen and Supreme Court justices do too.
Is the God we serve not capable of bringing revival to a future President Clinton and leading her to select godly Supreme Court candidates? Is the God we serve not capable of bringing revival to a future President Trump and leading him to select godly Supreme Court candidates? If God doesn’t act in this way, regardless of who gets elected, wouldn’t our country get what we really deserve for abandoning our Judeo-Christian roots?
The sad reality is that both parties have passed horrible financial legislation and practiced fiscal suicide. Both parties have leaders who are more interested in preserving themselves than preserving the country. Both parties have declining morals. And all three of these sad realities could also be used to describe the church and many of its leaders. As a result, it is the church that I primarily blame for the current state of America. We have grown silent, comfortable, lazy, arrogant, compromised, and inactive. This is not the kind of bride the Lord is returning for one day, so it’s time to figure out if we actually are His bride.
Unfortunately, sometimes judgment is the only path remaining that will wake us up. We will be purified one way or another, so things might get ugly in the near future. God will do what is necessary to bring repentance and revival, and this must start with the church. We need to be involved in all levels of government. And just as a reminder, “separation of church and state” is not in any of our country’s founding documents. That is a lie perpetually spread by humanists and secularists over the last half century or so. Read more here.
To summarize, America has selected two candidates (three, if you count Mr. Johnson) who unfortunately reflect the moral depths to which we have fallen. So, what do I plan to do for now? I will vote for candidates at other levels of government who reflect Biblical values. And I pray.
As for Mr. Trump, I pray that God would soften and turn his heart toward the path of righteousness.
As for Mrs. Clinton, I pray that God would soften and turn her heart toward the path of righteousness.
As for me, I pray that God would soften and turn my heart toward the path of righteousness.
Thanks!
